Almor West began as an open-space elementary school in the Fall of 1973 in the east wing of Woodland Hills Elementary School. Mr. Raymond Smith was the first principal and and the staff included 15 faculty members with approximately 250 students. Faculty and families worked during the Christmas Break of that year to help prepare the new building located at 6902 SW Delta for opening in January 1974. In June, 1997, Almor West was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National 1996-1997 Blue Ribbon School. Mr. Raymond Smith, Dr. Carolyn Mayes and Mrs. Cathie Blodgett have been previous principals at Almor West. Mr. Kerry Malakosky is the current principal. Our entire faculty, support staff, and auxiliary personnel welcome you to Almor West. We strive for excellence in a framework of care and enthusiasm for learning. Almor West begins a new era this 2007 - 2008 school year with the addition of 13 walled classrooms. The open-space classroom concept will no longer be the chief focal point of our school methodology. We are looking forward to offering the best educational program possible. This will be our top priority. |
